A night that began with the flying of Holy Water in the air by the hand of Archbishop Nikon blessing our Choros and ending, as we were sent out into the world shining, with oil from the anointing by the hand of the Archbishop. This was St. Nektarios Vespers November 6, 2016. At the end of the Service, Seminarian Simon Menya from Uganda spoke to the assembled faithful of over one hundred twenty. He related two incidents in his life that brought him close to St. Nektarios. He then spoke of the Feast of St. Nektarios in Uganda and his village. Preparation for the feast begins four weeks before November 9th. People spend this time helping the needy, visiting hospitals, the sick and prisons. He said there are four times a year that the people have meat: Pascha, Christmas, Election Day and St. Nektarios Feast. The faith and love that filled our church that night was powerful. May we cultivate it and bring it to a hungry and thirsty world. Plan now for Sunday November 5, 2017 to come on pilgrimage to the relics of St. Nektarios.
